for two years i've been promising myself i'd order a big box of used minidiscs from japan

i finally gave in and order some last week. fifty discs, all with cases, and various makes and models. i am in wonder at the many different colours and translucencies 😻

some have english labels, and appear to be old live band recordings

@vga256 I remember having colour coded translucent CD-RW cases. Backups = orange, a disc my friend and I would exchange music, games, gifs and things with = purple, storage = blue, etc. The days before USB sticks heh

@ThreeOhFour 😋 i love that. i’ve been slowly collecting jolly rancher coloured CDRWs for the past few years. they’re so full of charm!

@vga256 I remember the CD-RW themselves cost $10 *each* but it was so worth it. Especially that file swapping one. She and I nearly wore that thing out. But I found out about so much music and stuff through it.

@vga256 It was kind of an Event getting to school and she'd be like "Here!". Because it would be the first influx of new stuff in a few weeks. Like getting your magazine coverdisc once a month. Always an exciting time.

@ThreeOhFour that is so endearing. i can only imagine. i got a taste of it in university with cd mixes people would burn, but it was nowhere as exciting by that age
